32L maiden winner produces another gap job on Australian debut
Imported galloper King Frankel ($4.40) kicked off his life down under in emphatic fashion with a big off-Broadway win at Saturday's Newcastle meeting.
The Mark Newnham-trained galloper only won one of his 10 starts in the UK but it was a pretty notable one - claiming victory by a lazy 32 lengths over 2016m at Pontefract.
Admittedly he faced just two rivals that day and the runner-up - the Charlie Appleby
-trained King Of Tomorrow - pulled up lame, but the facts and figures on his form page don't lie.
On Saturday he showed that there is a bit of ability there as he beat up on the Class 1/maiden field over 1850m with a 5L gap job.
The Heavy 8 track - and the sheeting rain - no doubt undid a few of his rivals, with race favourite Nyika ($4) beaten some 11.46 lengths.
The Kylie Gavenlock-trained Bob ($19) was the only horse within cooee of the winner, as King Frankel ploughed through the conditions to do his old man proud.
King Frankel is a full-brother of Eminent (or He's Eminent), who ran second to Avilius in the G1 Ranvet Stakes in 2019.
