Bjorn Baker’s star sprinter is the latest horse to land a slot in the $20 million The Everest on October 14.

Overpass will get his second chance to win The TAB Everest after he was selected in an innovative deal involving the Australian Turf Club slot for the $20 million race at Royal Randwick next month.

Syndicator Scott Darby confirmed Overpass is into the world’s richest turf race after his outstanding first-up second to

Darby said it was a relief to get Overpass into The Everest on October 14 after the sprinter ran a close sixth to Giga Kick in the big race last year.

“It’s awesome to be getting the deal done with ATC and (Rockingham) Rams from Western Australia,’’ Darby said.

“We joined up with the Rams racing fellas with The Quokka that Overpass won in Perth earlier this year and it will be great to have them at Randwick for The Everest.’’

Trainer Bjorn Baker is adamant Overpass is a better horse this year than the one that ran so competitively in The Everest 12 months ago.

“Overpass has gone to another level this year and I couldn’t be happier with how he has pulled up after The Shorts,’’ Baker said.

“The plan is to trial him early next month and go straight into The Everest without another run. He goes best on the fresh side and he excels at 1200m.’’
